COMMODITY MARKET STRATEGY 04 SEPTEMBER 2014


BASE METAL WRAP: Nickel climbed to the highest in almost four weeks after a Philippine lawmaker filed a bill to require all mined minerals to be processed before export.

ENERGY WRAP: Natural gas prices edged lower on Wednesday after weather forecasting models continued to call for milder temperatures to move across the U.S. this weekend, which should cut into the need for air conditioning and thus reduce demand for the commodity at the nation's thermal power plants. Crude oil futures rebounded from the previous session's steep declines on Wednesday, after Kiev said it has reached a deal with Russia for a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold advanced for a second day on speculation that prices near the lowest level since June may encourage purchases as investors assessed tensions in Ukraine and the outlook for higher U.S. borrowing costs.

INDIAN BENCHMARK open marginally lower as investors

INDIAN BENCHMARK open marginally lower as investors are likely to book profits after recent gains while weak Asian cues and geopolitical tensions would weigh on sentiment.
FURTHER, DLF will be in action after the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday set aside the Haryana government’s decision to allot 350 acres of land in Wazirabad, Gurgaon. United Spirits reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 4,489 crore for the year ended March 31, 2014.
Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 192cr in the cash segment on Wednesday while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs. 469cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.

INDIAN BENCHMARK open on a positive note tracking


INDIAN BENCHMARK open on a positive note tracking a bullish trend tracking Asian markets. Investors will be eying the HSBC India services PMI today.

FURTHER, NMDC's iron ore sales rose 23% to 25.2 lakh tonnes for the month of August. The company had dispatched 20.5 lakh tonnes iron ore during the same month last year. Hindalco has been exploring various options to raise USD 1 billion-plus or around Rs 5,000 to 6,000 crore funds.

BASE METAL WRAP: Aluminium in London climbed for a second day following Alcoa Inc.’s decision to close a smelter in Italy and before durable goods orders data from the U.S., the second-largest consumer of industrial metals.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate traded near the lowest price in seven months before supply data that will signal the strength of fuel demand in the U.S, the world’s biggest oil consumer. Brent was steady in London.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold held losses near a two-month low on speculation that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise borrowing costs next year, strengthening the dollar and damping demand for an alternative investment.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS down …Late trade sell-off on SC order


INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS hit fresh record highs early today ended flat amid selling pressure in metal and power stocks after the Supreme Court said that guidelines were breached in coal block allocations during the UPA government and that the terms of allotment, going as far back as 1993, were themselves illegal.
·         Alstom T&D gained 5.5 percent on joint venture bagging order worth Rs 3,250 crore.
·         Further, Lakshmi Vilas Bank has announced that the Bank opened its Rights Issue for an amount of Rs409.79 crores on August 08, 2014. The issue remained open for 15 days and closed on August 22, 2014.

The crucial resistance for Nifty is now seen at 7970 and above this 7995. Support for the immediate term is now placed at 7895 and next support will be 7855.

COMMODITY MARKET STRATEGY 25 AUGUST 2014


BASE METAL WRAP:  
Copper in Shanghai swung between gains and losses near the highest in almost four weeks after stockpiles fell the most since May and before housing data in the U.S., the second-biggest consumer of industrial metals.

ENERGY WRAP
Brent fell for a second day amid speculation that Middle East crude supplies will remain safe amid turmoil across the region. West Texas Intermediate was steady after a technical issue disrupted electronic trading.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: 
Investors are exiting the gold market on speculation that signs of sustained U.S. economic growth will push the Federal Reserve closer to raising interest rates, cutting demand for bullion as an inflation hedge.

INDIAN BENCHMARK open on a flat note tracking a mostly weak trend across markets in Asia as a sharp slowdown in China’s manufacturing underscored concerns over the health of the world’s second biggest economy, overshadowing Federal Reserve’s commitment to continue to keep interest rates low.

FURTHER, DLF Ltd is planning to reduce debt to Rs 12,000-14,000 crore by FY17 through asset monetization. Reliance Infrastructure has filed an appeal in the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity against the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission pleading a stay on its recent order in change-over and switchover of its consumers to Tata Power in the Mumbai distribution area.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 192cr in the cash segment on Friday while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs. 481cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.

BASE METAL WRAP: London copper fell on Tuesday to near six-week lows as improving supply and renewed tension between Ukraine and Russia combined with a summer lull to curb investors' appetite for risky assets.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate fell amid speculation that U.S. oil demand is slowing after a government report showed weekly crude inventories expanded for the time since June. Brent dropped in London.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold traded little changed below a three-week high as investors gauged the health of the U.S. economy and tensions persisted in Ukraine and the Middle East. Gold demand in China shrank in the second quarter as consumers in the biggest user bought fewer bars, coins and jewelry amid a clampdown on corruption and as the buying spurred by last year’s price slump wasn’t sustained.

BASE METAL WRAP: Indonesia’s ban on nickel ore exports is resonating globally as prices climb to the highest since 2012, prompting companies from Avebury Nickel Mines Ltd. to Poseidon Nickel Ltd. to restart operations at idled mines.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate fell for a second day after an industry report showed crude and gasoline supplies expanded in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil user. Brent dropped in London.

Markets open flat; Axis Bank, Hindalco dip 1%

Sensex is down 13 points at 26,074 and the Nifty has lost 11 points to trade at 7,779.

The U.S. central bank also, as expected, reduced its monthly asset purchases to $25 billion from $35 billion. for quick trial
 
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI fell 31.75 points, or 0.19 percent, to 16,880.36, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 0.12 points, or 0.01 percent, to 1,970.07, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXICadded 20.20 points, or 0.45 percent, to 4,462.90. The S&P 500 had traded lower ahead of the Fed announcement.
 
Asian markets are trading firm on Thursday following robust US economic data and as investors braced for Argentina to default on its debt for the second time in twelve years.

INDIAN BENCHMARK record highs after Cabinet approval



INDIAN BENCHMARK record highs after Cabinet approval for a higher foreign direct investment limit in insurance and a rejig in foreign debt limits reinforced optimism about the government's reform agenda.



FURTHER, SKS Microfinance reported a flat net profit at Rs 49.3 crore in the April-June quarter over the year-ago period. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 49.69 crore during the same period last year. Tata Steel raised USD 1.5 billion (about Rs 9,000 crore) in a dual tranche bond sale in the international market, making it the largest such deal by the Tata group firm.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS record highest percentage fall in a day since Jan '14

INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS slumped, recording their largest drop in percentage terms since January 27, 2014, as investors turned cautious and booked profits ahead of the Budget session on Thursday.

Further, Shares of Aban Offshore surge as much as 9.8 percent, their highest level since May 14, 2010, on hopes the country's largest offshore drilling company may enjoy higher rig rates in the coming quarters. ONGC has okayed an expenditure sanction of an additional Rs 3,085.54 crore for hiring of five more offshore jack-up rigs for a period of three years.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS end at record all time highs… IT shares up 2.44%



INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS ended on positive territory in the anticipation of a growth-oriented Budget. Both domestic and foreign investors are closely eyeing the Rail Budget and the Union Budget as these two parameters are expected to decide the future course of Indian markets.

Further, IDFC has surged over 7% on back of heavy volumes after Morgan Stanley raises its price target for the company to Rs 175 from Rs 115. NMDC Ltd may spend nearly AUD 12.1 million to subscribe a rights issue planned by its Australian arm Legacy Iron Ore Ltd.
